Gay Leaders in UK Targeted By Islamist Terrorists:

It must be all of those gay people serving in Iraq...

5 points to the first person who tries to tell me that threatening to murder someone because they are gay is JUST LIKE not letting them get married. 10 points to the person who cites Matthew Shepherd as proof that there's no difference between Fundamentalist Christians and Islamicists. And 100 points to the person who bitch-slaps the idiots who make the first two arguments and saves me the trouble of doing it myself.

It's pretty obvious that homosexuality isn't a chosen behavior, because good grief, who the heck would deliberately put themselves through this kind of shit?

The guy who killed Matthew Shepherd didn't kill him because of his religious viewpoints (whatever they might've been). He killed him because he was homophobic, violent, and possibly drunk. While one could argue that the Christian religion may have created a culture which supported homophobia, it's hardly relevant to the case; there are hundreds of Christians in Wyoming who don't beat gay people to death. Comparing Shepherd's death to cautiously premeditated death threats from pretty much any group of religious fundamentalists, Muslim, Christian, or otherwise, would be comparing apples and doorknobs.
